An Approach as Unique as Your Child

Reading

Building strong readers starts with the right foundation. Grounded in the Science of Reading, I use evidence-based, multisensory instruction to develop the phonemic awareness, decoding, and fluency skills that make reading feel less like a struggle and more like a strength.

Comprehension

Reading the words is only half the journey. Using research-driven comprehension strategies and metacognitive techniques, I help students unlock the meaning behind what they read — developing the critical thinking and visualization skills that turn text into deep, lasting understanding.

Writing

Finding the right words can feel overwhelming for many students. Through structured literacy and explicit, process-based instruction, I guide students in organizing their thoughts, developing written expression, and building the writing confidence and fluency that carries them through school and beyond.

About

The Story Behind Cognition for Life

My journey into education is deeply personal. As a child, I struggled with reading. While my teachers could see something was wrong, the right support never came, and I know firsthand what it feels like to sit in a classroom wondering why learning feels so hard when everyone else seems to get it.

That experience never left me. It became the foundation of everything I do.

I went on to earn my degree in Secondary Education from Wayne State University, stepping into the classroom with a genuine passion for reaching every student. But classroom teaching revealed a painful reality — too many students, too little time, and not enough tools to truly help the learners who needed it most. I knew there had to be a better way.

That conviction led me out of the traditional classroom and into the world of remediation and process-based learning, and I never looked back. Over the course of 15 years, I have worked with hundreds of students and families, eventually rising to a director-level role at a leading learning center with a national reputation for research-driven, results-focused intervention. That experience sharpened not only my expertise but my understanding of what truly moves the needle for struggling learners.

My mission became even more personal when my own child was diagnosed with dyslexia. Navigating that journey as a parent, while also being an experienced educator, gave me a perspective that no degree or title ever could. I understand this road from every angle. I have walked it as a struggling student, witnessed it as a classroom teacher, led others through it as a director, and lived it as a parent.

What drives me every single day is the belief that the right support at the right time can change everything. Learning struggles do not have to define a student forever. With a personalized, process-based approach and genuine 1-on-1 attention, every student, regardless of age or ability, can build the skills and confidence to reach their potential.

That is why I founded Cognition for Life. And that is why I show up fully for every single student I work with.

If your child is struggling, or if you simply feel they have more potential waiting to be unlocked, I would love to connect. You are not alone in this — and neither is your child.
